SERVICES WE PROVIDE

There are many different types of editing, and as a writer, we can often become overwhelmed with trying to determine exactly what type of editing our manuscript requires. I have therefore put together a comprehensive list of the types of editing I offer and exactly what is included with each. You may decide that your book needs one or more rounds of editing, and that's completely fine! I can work with you to discuss your individual needs and determine the best way forwards for your project.

Please reach out to me via the form below to discuss your project. It would be great if you could include the genre, the type of service you are interested in, and the word count of your manuscript. I can provide a free 1,000-word sample edit for anyone who wants to use my services.

Alternatively, if you're still unsure, feel free to contact me via the form at the bottom of the page, I am happy to answer any questions or concerns you have in general!

TYPES OF EDITING WE PROVIDE

DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING

A developmental edit is usually the first type of editing you will want to address. A developmental edit focuses on your entire manuscript as a whole. It will address:

-The structure of your manuscript

-The plot

-Characterization

-Narrative voice

-Genre

-Marketability

When submitting your manuscript to me for a developmental edit, I will provide you with a document discussing the strengths and weaknesses of your work, as well as pinpointing areas on your manuscript that need improvement. Note that this is not a proofread of your manuscript. No grammatical or technical errors will be identified within the work at this point.

Alternatively, you may decide that you don't need a developmental edit - you are confident with the structure, plot, characterization, narrative style of your manuscript. I would therefore suggest looking at one of our other editing services instead.

LINE EDITING

A line edit will address your writing style sentence by sentence. I will focus on the language you use and the flow of your writing, ensuring that each line is crafted to ensure a pleasurable reading experience. A line edit may include:

-Ensuring your sentences are complete.

-Avoiding repetition of words or phrases.

-Editing passages that are bland, or that don't read well.

-Adding words or phrases to improve descriptions or dialogue.

-Ensuring all scenes are clear and impactful.

When submitting your work for a line edit, you will receive a word document with in-depth tracked changes and comments on your manuscript. It is then up to you to decide whether to include the changes I have suggested.

A line edit does not include proofreading. I may edit some mistakes that I find as I go, however, your work will still need to undergo a round of proof-reading, whether by myself or someone else.

PROOFREADING

This is the final round of editing your manuscript will undergo and will include carefully combing your manuscript for errors. These errors include:

-Spelling.
-Punctuation.
-Grammar.
-Internal consistency.
-Syntax.

When submitting your manuscript for proofreading, you will receive back a word document with tracked changes where errors have been identified and resolved.
